Georgia Georgia , a state located in the Southeastern United States is bordered by Tennessee and North Carolina to the north; South Carolina to the northeast; the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast; Florida to the south; and Alabama to the west. Georgia is the 8th most populous state and the 24th largest in terms of area. Its 2020 population was 10,711,908, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Atlanta, a “beta(+)” global city, is both the state’s capital and its largest city. Atlanta, with more than 6,000,000 people in 2021 is the 8th largest metropolitan area in the United States. It contains 57% of Georgia’s population.
