Maine

Maine occupies the easternmost position in the New England region, which is located in the Northeastern United States. Maine borders New Hampshire on the west, the Gulf of Maine on the southeast and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick to the north and northwest. Maine, the largest state in New England by total area, is also the 12th smallest by area. It is also the 9th least populous, 13th least densely populated and the most rural among the 50 U.S. States. It is also the northeasternmost among the contiguous United States, the northernmost state east of the Great Lakes, the only state whose name consists of a single syllable, and the only state to border exactly one other U.S. state. Maine is divided in half by the 45th parallel north latitude. Portland is the most populous city of Maine, while Augusta is its capital.
