Washington

Washington , officially the State of Washington and often referred to as Washington state to distinguish it from the national capital, Washington, D.C., is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the Western United States. The state was named after George Washington, the first U.S. President, and was formed by the Oregon Treaty, which settled the Oregon boundary dispute. The state is bounded on the west by Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia in Canada. In 1889, it was admitted as the 42nd State to the Union. The state capital is Olympia; the largest city in the state is Seattle.
